President’s Message,
Rudy M. Ortiz, P.E.
February 2010

Dear Colleagues and Friends:
2009 was a very difficult year for almost everyone. The economy continued its steady decline, resulting in unprecedented unemployment in the industry; particularly close to home, right here in south Florida, where unemployment rates are higher than ever.

In looking ahead however, I believe 2010 is going to be the year we see an upward trend that will signal the beginning of a brighter future. That is why today more than ever, we must remain committed to our profession and the organization we promote. We live in the greatest Country on Earth and as we have done many times in our history, we will rise to the occasion still stand tall as Number One in the world.

In anticipation of a brighter and a booming future in the engineering industry, and in line with my goals for this term, we must remain focused in the following areas: promoting engineering as a career at all levels of education; Continuing our support and participation in Future City competitions and MathCounts – these kids represent the future of our profession and the future leaders of our community.

In closing this brief message, please remember that the FES Miami Chapter is a non-profit organization that supports many programs including those described above. To continue this vital and important role, your continued support and sponsorship is very much needed. We cannot do it without you!

Sincerely,

Rudy M. Ortiz, P.E., President
